ACR101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Endorphins, Information Audit
WEEK 1: What is criminology?
Criminology draws upon a lot of disciplines
It considers the causes of crime and examines the ways we respond to it as society
It is critical discipline and often questioning the practices and institutional arrangements within
criminal justice
We will cover:
- The changing nature of crime (new laws, law changed, are you criminal if you haven’t been
caught?)
- Measurement challenges (some things are very underreported other are not)
- Key types of crime and ways of responding to them (state, cyber, environmental, white
collar and corporate, in the home, youth and in the streets)
We get a slight endorphin rush when we look at our phone haha not me. There goes going
on my phone during class. Why is everything in uni about sex…
*Victimization paradox*
