CASE STUDY
You are on placement in an orthopaedic unit. Bob, a 62 year old man, is admitted for
amputation of his left foot, as a result of a chronic ulcer secondary to Type 2
Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Bob was a truck-driver and was still working casually until
last year when he started having trouble using the clutch. Bob seems stoic about his
situation, saying “I got myself into this state, too many meat pies and not enough
exercise!” As you care for Bob, consider the following:

1. What is the role of the nurse within the multidisciplinary team (MDT)?
a) Nurses play an important role in the multidisciplinary team.
