Physical deliberately hurts
Leaving in hot car/drugged/alcohol/excessive physical discipline
Sexual abuse
Children exposed to inappropriate sexual activity.
Emotional abuse
Hardest to find
Damages childs ability to feel and express emotions
Psychological abuse
Damaging childs self esteem
Neglect
Not providing enough care/supervision
Medical problems
Parent who refuse to acknowledge disabilities
Education department policy.
Duty of care
Non teaching staff – suspicions/evidence/confided in
Advise principal. Either in written or verbal form
Teaching staff – must always report directly belief formed on reasonable grounds
Principals – always report. No choice
Make sure student nd staff is safe
All staff – keep record
Always be aware of immediate needs of children making disclosure and respnd appropriately. When
a child is telling you directly
Never proise ot to tell eve if they do’t decide to tell you
Reassure child. Often its people clos to the child. They feel as if theyre doing wrong but reassure
them
Allow them to tell the story in their own words
