Document Summary
Introduction to the influences on learning and development. The study of the persistent, cumulative, and progressive changes in: physical, socio- emotional and cognitive (dimensions) functioning of children. ". Changes in emotions, self-concepts, motivation, social relationship, and moral reasoning and behaviour. *developmental changes occur throughout the lifespan, not just childhood. As individuals, we simultaneously participate in different contexts. With growth and development the child discovers and enters other contexts. When talking about child development, context matters, it can positively or negatively influence a child"s learning. All areas of child development are shaped by contextual influences. Children"s experiences in families, schools, neighbourhood, cultural and ethnic group, and society matter. Environmental factors matter! (eg income, relationships, look at tonya"s case in the readings) Teachers can create conditions for children to thrive developmentally. Five levels of external influences that interlock referred to as a model of an onion, there are layers that overlap each other. Environments can have a positive or negative effect.
