Creativity*is*associated*with*personality*characteristics,*thought*processes*and*products*that*

it*is*a*process*(not*an*event)*
It*is*original*thinking*(to*the*individual,*not*necessarily*to*the*universe)*
It*has*value*(involves*evaluating*and*making*judgements)**

-*Above-average*ability*(general*and*specific,*capacity*to*apply*knowledge*and*skills*to***

Six!hindrances!to!creative!thinking!in!education:!
(1) Attempts*by*adults*to*eliminate*fantasy*
(2) Restriction*of*the*child’s*curiousity*
(3) Over*emphasis*on*gender*roles*
(4) Over*emphasis*on*prevention*and*feat*as*control*mechanisms*
(5) Emphasis*on*destructive*criticism*
(6) Coercive*pressures*to*conform*

Fear!is!the!biggest!impediment!to!creativity!
Creativity*research:*mystical*approaches,*pragmatic*approaches,*psychometric*approaches,*
psychodynamic*approaches,*cognitive*approaches,*confluence*approaches*

It*is*possible*to*teach*creative*thinking,*but*only*by*modelling*it*in*a*thoughtful*dialogic*way,*
for*example*using*open*questions*encouraging*forming*hypotheses,*providing*reason,*
stating*intention,*exploring*implications*(Wegerif,*2010).**
