Document Summary

Qualitative research is undertaken when we want to answer particular types of questions. The research involves investigating an issue/event/occurrence around and there is not a lot of evidence. There is a need to explore the issue/event/occurrence in detail and depth. There is a need to understand attitudes and behaviours. Qualitative data is needed to tell a story around quantitative data because there is a need to know why something happened, not just that it happened. At the end of this topic you should be able to: Outline the defining features, strengths and limitations of qualitative research and analysis. Match research questions appropriate to specific qualitative research. Describe the organisation and structure of a qualitative journal article. Qualitative research starts from the beginning of a given area of study recognising patterns of behaviour or the attention to clusters of conversations to help build a theory.
