Lim court report writing and case summary writing. Briefly set out the court you attended, the date of the case, the names of the parties and of the presiding judge or magistrate: overview of the case. In this section, you need to enable your reader to understand the nature and the essence of the case you observed. Your overview must be succinct yet cover the essential features of the case. Whether the case was a criminal or civil matter. The particular stage of the proceeding (e. g. was it a committal proceeding, an actual trial, a hearing on costs?) and the purpose of that stage of the proceeding. The particular area of law that was concerned. If it is a statutory basis, identify the relevant act and section (e. g. s. 17 of the summary offences act 1966 (vic)). If it is a common law basis, identify the relevant case(s).
