If i disobey him, you owe me no obedience: democracy an effectively practical application of these ideas. 2nd caliph umar: realised that ummah needed order, unity preserved by an outwardly directed offensive, maintained good discipline. Conquered lands were divided among the generals: muslims accepted his rulings in matters that concerned the ummah as a whole, but not on matters that individuals could decide for themselves. 4th caliph - ali ibn abi talib: united with rebels, fought with them against aisha, muha(cid:373)(cid:373)ad(cid:859)s fa(cid:448)ou(cid:396)ite (cid:449)ife, muhammad had sought to promote unity among muslims.
