Germ layers = mesoderm muscle, endoderm endocrine, ectoderm brain and skin. Note: can"t really show in humans, so don"t truly know for sure if we have pluripotent stem cell populations. Commitment (cell autonomous) received signal and is acting on it epigenetic; transcription factor network. Patterning (environmental) looking to see where it is in space relative to other cells and the environment.
