Attention & emotion: stroop task: stimulus with 2 elements, 1 to be attended to, 1 to ignore, standard result: incongruent slower than congruent condition because word meaning interferes with colour naming, emotional results: In anxious participants, emotion condition slower than natural condition. Bower"s semantic network theory of emotion & cognition: emotions represented as nodes in a network, emotion nodes connected to relevant concepts, words, events & emotions.
