Document Summary

The physical, mental and emotional human response to a particular stimulus, otherwise known as a stressor (both perceived or imagined) A biological and psychological response experienced on encountering a threat that we feel we do not have the resources to deal with: stress underlies various negative mood states. Stress does not occur in isolation encompasses fear and panic, and cooccurs with other emotions. Biological conceptualisation: release of hormones into the blood stream induces different responses. Anticipation/perception triggers the release of stress hormones. Hormones increase heart rate, blood pressure, put muscles on high alert, pupils dilate, increase in blood glucose levels, increased sweating. Physical changes allow the person to react quickly to threat fight or flight response. Only focus on the impact of stressors at a biological level. Cannot fully explain individual responses to stressor genetics, life experiences, personality play a part as well.
