The intestinal epithelium is a highly dynamic tissue: Crypt is where the stem cells are lined, and it is where cell division occurs. Stem cells generate all 4 differentiated cells in the intestinal epithelium: Stem cells gives rise to the transit-amplifying compartment where these cells undergo rapid cell division.
