Global mental health: recognizing the importance of making mental health support services available to anyone and everyone regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, and location, only 1% of the global health workforce works in mental health. Persons with mental disorders and family members are not involved in policy/plan/law development. Imperative to foster effective, locally appropriate mental health services, programs need to be developed that are self-reliant, sustainable and not conditional on foreign aid, infrastructure and imports. Emerald - emerging mental health systems in low-middle income countries: aims to improve mental health outcomes in low and middle income countries by enhancing health system performance, with projects in ethiopia, india, nepal, nigeria, south africa and uganda.
