Document Summary

Lecture 27 : b cell receptors and antibodies. Describe the evidence which was used to define hypervariable regions in antibody molecules. Combinatorial diversity : the generation of immunoglobulins through gene recombination. Junctional diversity : addition and deletion of nucleotides during recombination. The antibody molecule revision from previous lecture : Hypervariable regions ( hv regions) , also called. Cdr there are 3 cdrs per chain ( cdr1, Igm will have the same constant region but different variable regions. Variable domains of antigen receptors are encoded by combinations of 2 - 3 gene segments. D ( diversity) gene segments (ig heavy chain) Hypervariable domains of antigen receptors are encoded by combinations of 2 - 3 gene segments. V (variable) gene segments encode most of the variable domains. D ( diversity) gene segments (ig heavy chain only) Cdr1 and 2 are encoded by v gene segments. Cdr3 is encoded by the v(d) and j encoded gene segments.
