Document Summary

Lecture 28 : antibody isotype diversity and tcrs. Describe how antibodies can be of different isotypes which further increase diversity. Outline the basic difference by which bcrs / ig and tcrs see antigens. Outline the basic structure of the tcr in regards to subunit composition and location of various variable regions that bind multi histocompatibility complexes ( mhc ) and peptides. Isotype switching enzymes involved in class switching are different to the enzymes in variable region arrangement via somatic recombination. Whilst the mechanism is not fully understood, what is known is that it involves signal sequences from helper. If there are, can differentiate into igg, igd etc. depending on secreted cytokines. Antibody isotypes ( mature b cells are called plasma cells ) Igd and igm - the 2 types of antibodies common in the beginning of the bcell lifecycle. Iga - secreted as dimer -> more stable because found in the gut.
