In many asian countries, new restaurants abound and numerous magazines, blogs, websites, television shows are devoted to food and food preparation. There is larger quantity of high caloric food which are cheaper than healthier choices. In australia, 2/3rd of adult population are overweight or obese. Dieting and weight loss is common which has created a multibillion dollar a year business for women and men too. Clinical descriptions of eating disorders can be traced back many years but in the dsm it appeared in. 1980 as one subcategory of disorders beginning in childhood or adolescence. Nervosa: indicates that the loss is due to emotional reasons. The term is a misnomer because most people with anorexia nervosa do not lose their appetite or interest in food. While starving themselves, most people become preoccupied with food; they may read cookbooks or prepare gourmet meals for their families.
