E. g. , you can still identify where the pencil or glasses are even if they are hidden behind a computer or covered by books. This problem of hidden objects occur anytime one object obscures part of another object. This occurs frequently in the environment but people easily understand that the part of an object that is covered still exists. People are also able to recognize blurred faces despite the degraded nature of the faces; people can often identify but computer can"t. When you look at a page of a book, the image cast by the borders of the page on your retina is ambiguous. It may seem obvious as it is rectangular shape: but perceptual system is not concerned with determining an object"s image on the retina. Starts with the image on the retina, and its job is to determine the object out there" that created the image.
