Failure of apoptosis can lead to neoplasia
• Oncotic means swelling which is common in necrosis
o i.e. the cell swells and either gradually deteriorate (shrinks) or explodes
• Apoptosis is a metabolic pathway that exists within the cell
• There needs to be a way the body can modify and control cell growth
• These processes are often visual
• Need to compare multiple features to determine whether its apoptosis or necrosis
