Feedback used to make adjustments and move the learning forward
Feedback functions formatively only if the information fed back to the learner is used by the
learner to progress learning and group performance
Given feedback with specific comments on errors, suggestions about how to improve, and at
least one positive remark -> positive outcome
Written feedback, do not include scores!!!
Balance of positive and negative is needed, Hattie and Yates recommend a ratio of 3 (positive)
to 1 (negative)
Three principles for feedback:
o Should be more work for the recipient than the donor
o Should be focused
o Relate to the learning goals that have been shared with the students
