• Transmission of messages

Dimensions of Comms
• Intrapersonal – what goes on inside our heads
• Interpersonal – communicating with others
• Group – dealing with different audiences
• Public – one-to-many, particular group of people
• Intercultural – across different beliefs
• Mediated – appropriated use of media, the media that we choose ,
any sort of social media particular for our generation
Meaning
• Meaning is in people, not the word
• Meaning is embedded in cultural and historical
• Denotation: the literal meaning of the word
• Connotation: the subjective meaning of a word, often socially
absorbed

• Selecting the channel (sensory base) and important as content
• All about the appropriateness of the medium
Content appropriate for which channel:
• Applying for a job – online, email,
• Conducting a interview – face-to-face,
• Arranging an business meeting – email,
• Breaking up a relationship – face-to-face

• Noise- interference with the delivery
