KEY TERMS
• Reading Comprehension – process of simultaneously extracting and constructing meaning
through interaction and involvement with written language. Consists of three main
components: the reader the text and activity/purpose for reading.
• Variability – teachers need to consider the variabilities that occur across the 3 components
of reading comprehension i.e. reader, text & activity and the contexts in which they occur
and be proactive in addressing these variabilities through teaching and learning
instruction.
