ANAT1005 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Peritoneal Cavity, Abdominopelvic Cavity, Abdominal Wall
Document Summary
Most digestive organs are in the abdominopelvic cavity. 3 superior- right and left hypochondriac, central epigastric. 3middle- right and left lumbar regions, central umbilical region. 3 inferior- right and left iliac regions, central hypogastric. Propulsions- movement of food through the gi tract. Peristalsis- wave of muscular contraction occurs throughout the gi tract. Visceral peritoneum- covers the external surfaces of most dig organs. Parietal peri- lines the body wall and is continuous with the visceral peri. Peritoneal cav- between visceral and parietal peri contains fluid to reduce friction. Ventral mese- falciform ligament attaches the liver to the anterior ab wall and the lesser omentum connects it to the lesser curvature of the stomach. Great mese- connects to the great curv of the stomach post abdominal wall. Transverse mesocolom- tranverse colon to post abdominal wall. Sigmoid mesocolon- sigmoid colon to post pelvis wall. Organs that are suspended in the peritoneal cav they are intraperitoneal and are not moveable e. g. stomach.
