EDUC Week 1 Lecture – Productive Pedagogies
Science of teaching, art, also the theory
Authentic pedagogy and quality teaching – refer back to the finding of studies
Fifth dimension – learning beyond the classroom – advancement of digital technologies
Key points:
• Have to differentiate between students – everyone is not treated equally
• Need to do this to achieve equity
• Soe part of lassroo should e deoted to Life
• Need to be able to aim for the wonderful lessons that inspire
• Teach to accept and diplomatically discuss
• Shaping of that person and how they live in society
• Teaching of citizenship – shaping the young beings into who they are
• Every teacher is a language and literacy teacher in own subject
• Teaching student how to communicate in each genre
• Most will become second language teachers (teaching English as a second language)
• Substantive conversation – going both ways and opens up discussion
• Matalanguage – over and above (Greek)
• Problematic knowledge is often hard to digest
• Want to connect with the students, needs to be about the students
• Connectedness beyond the classroom based on their own lived experiences
• Need to be able to talk about topic (such as LGBTQI+)
• Self-regulation – how learning works, steps of teaching strategies, taught explicitly
• Able to learn from the students
Productive Pedagogies:
• Intellectual quality
• Connectedness
• Supportive environment
• Valuing of differences
Patterns:
• No discussions
• Low connectedness
• Low diversity
• Not supporting student direction
• Issues concentrated in poorer areas
