Document Summary

Lecture 11 exercise prescription and programming for kidney. Kidney disease reduced kidney function or kidney damage. Can occur from decreased glomerular filtration rate (gfr) Kidney damage is characterised by stages of kidney disease: early stages of kidney disease. Often there are no symptoms in the early stages of kidney disease. Increased risk of heart disease: middle stages of kidney disease. Blood pressure can rise as the kidneys slow down: high blood pressure further increases the risk of cvd. Anaemia can occur from not enough rbcs in the blood to carry oxygen around the body. Symptoms include weakness, fatigue, and shortness of breath. Dietary changes are needed: limiting salt, potassium, and phosphorus. Lack of energy, increased tiredness, and reduced appetite. Stage 5 is end-stage kidney failure, which requires a kidney transplant or dialysis. An arteriovenous fistula is surgically inserted into a person. This performs the role of the kidney and filters blood: 3 sessions per week, 3-5 hours per session.
