The strength of our stories is based primarily on the relevance of our sources and how they relate to narrative. The voice and not the person delivering the voice is the story. Confidential sources : when information is off the record" you ethically should not report it. Authoritative source (i) people who are experts in the field you are writing about (ii) witnesses: people who have seen something or who have experienced something first hand. (iii)politicians, academics, managers and public relations officers representing people. They provide leads, detailed, leaked information and insider context. Generally people who have a sense of justice and morality. Aim : usually to expose some form of wrongdoing. Motivation : seeking justice, personal gain, revenge, patriotism, financial gain. The first thing an organisation is to discredit the whistleblower. Needs to be across multiple rounds, using multiple platforms (trans media), engaging with audiences and finding alternate funding. Not a follower of trends, creative innovator, passionate and comm.
