Lifetime suicidal ideation – 13%
Lifetime suicide plan – 4%
Lifetime suicide attempt – 3%
Suicide accounts for 30-35% of deaths in the 15-24yrs age group
Classification of Suicide
Egoistic Suicide
-Results from lack of integration into society
-Feel unattached, useless, helpless etc.
-Take their life due to feelings of inadequacy
Altruistic Suicide
-Results from a “higher calling”
-Something larger than themselves, usually religion
-E.g. martyrs, suicide bombers etc.
Anomic Suicide
-Results from lack of regulation of the individual society
-Where some big change has occurred in a society and their role in society is not as
clear
-Person loses their identity and dies by suicide
-E.g. global financial crisis, company closure etc.
