*Attitudes
- evaluative statement about objectives, people or events
- the components of the attitudes
1) Cognitive component: an opinion or belief. It sets the stage for more critical
affective component of an attitude
2) Affective component: is the emotional or feeling part of an attitude which
can lead to or affect behavioural outcomes
3) Behavioural component: an attitude describes the intention to behave in
certain way towards something or someone
- Eg, the employee thought he deserved the promotion (Cognition), he strongly
dislikes his supervisor (Affect) and he is looking for another job (Behaviour)
* Attitudes are sometimes not necessarily related to behaviour
- Cognitive Dissonance: which is the incompatibility an individual might
perceive between two or more attitudes or between behaviour and attitudes
- Eg, employees of a tobacco companies, when they produce tobacco, they
might brainwash themselves the benefits of tobacco and do some other way to
convince themselves of positive attitudes for them to continue producing
tobacco. If they failed to do so, and quit their jobs, that means the dissonance
is too great
- Importance, influence, and rewards are three factors that might help people
to reduce their dissonance

attitudes as its correspondence to behaviour, accessibility and the presence of
social pressure ad people’s direct experience will help to moderate the
attitude and attitude shows a strong relationship towards behaviour

1) Job Involvement
- the degree to which a person identifies with a job and actively participates in
the job and consider the performance on the job is important to the self-worth
- both job involvement and psychological empowerment are highly related to
the positive job performance
Case of Taking a “ickie the sick and absenteeism in Toyota Australia-
taking sick leave for regular basis, which has resulted a lower job
