MGTS1601 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Absenteeism, Organisation Climate, Organizational Culture
Document Summary
There are many facets contributing to the term diversity. Some include age, ethnicity, religion, disability, status and demographics. The two elements most associated with diversity and commonly reviewed in the literature, is race and gender. This, however, does not mean that these are the two most likely to lead to success compared to others. An article guillaume, dawson, woods, sacramento, and west (2013) reinforce the idea that if diversity is going to be successful, it needs to be correctly managed. As an all-inclusive term - will have a positive outcome on internal group processes and organisational functioning. To effectively manage diversity, it is important to create diversity climates which encourage the workings of everyone. As a result, having diversity will achieve broadened perspectives, uniqueness, a greater pool of resources and greater input. In support of this perspective is an article by herring (2009) which states that diversity will be helpful to an organisation if utilising the correct context.
