Cultural tourism product:
• Two features drive cultural tourism products: attractions and access
• Attractions are demand generators that give the consumer a reason to visit a destination
o If demand generators do not exist, people will not visit, regardless of how strong the
access is
• Access provides a means to reach the destinations or the product within the destination
o If the access is poor, people will have difficulty visiting event if demand is high
• The potential appeal of the product must exceed the potential cost associated (in time, money
or effort) to access it
•
• Ideal option is on the left core known and tangible and augmented options are developed
around it
• If extant historic structures/living culture are required to be conserved - option to the right
need to be considered
