Cultural tourism product:
Two features drive cultural tourism products: attractions and access
Attractions are demand generators that give the consumer a reason to visit a destination
o If demand generators do not exist, people will not visit, regardless of how strong the
access is
Access provides a means to reach the destinations or the product within the destination
o If the access is poor, people will have difficulty visiting event if demand is high
The potential appeal of the product must exceed the potential cost associated (in time, money
or effort) to access it
Ideal option is on the left core known and tangible and augmented options are developed
around it
If extant historic structures/living culture are required to be conserved - option to the right
need to be considered
