Document Summary
They select suitable plant parts for guts and teeth. Forbs = dandelions, herbs among grass, soft and nutritious. As the animals get smaller their diet quality increases. Thomson"s gazelle may find it easier to reach their rarer nutritious bits after the bulk has been removed by zebra and wildebeest. If this is the case, more zebras means more wildebeest and gazelle. Results show that there is no grazing facilitation as populations increased/decreased or remained stable independently. Move on to look at the wildebeest and gazelle. Wildebeest moved through and removed the grass when areas became unfenced. Following wildebeest eating in the area, the productivity of the grass increased and a dense mat of green foliage. Therefore, grass eaten by gazelle increases where there are wildebeest and these wildebeest facilitate energy flow, therefore grazing facilitation. Behaviour is best matched with changes in physiology. Generalists eat a higher diversity of plants, can"t cope with large amounts of psm.
