EDUF1018 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Roast Beef, Color Blindness, Eviction
Document Summary
Teaching: metaphor of campfire setting up of a place where students can check you out and, with aboriginal people everything is their family the water, trees and the land etc. The general deficit talk like i didn"t ring the family because they"re not gonna pick up the phone anyway" or i didn"t bother with that kid because even if he came to class he wouldn"t get it". That sort of stuff is common place everywhere across the school; no thought process that this is the baggage that the kids bring into the classroom (mr banks, 2014) They [teachers and school leaders] just don"t get how racist they are. They don"t see the damage they are doing to our kids when they talk about them (student) being hopeless like their brother" or not worth our time". They just lump them together as being aboriginal equal"s trouble and more work. (aunty nangala, 2014)
