Obesity: lecture 4: how to distinguish visceral & subcutaneous body fat, mri & ct, ultrasound, visceral fat is more dangerous than subcutaneous fat, women = more subcutaneous, men = more visceral (so higher wc) 4: 1/3 adolescents are obese or overweight (15-17yo, obese teenagers track into adulthood so become obese adults, need to target & prevent this before 5yo, racial differences also affects obesity. Gender differences in obesity: more overweight men, more normal women. Geographical differences in obesity: where you live will influence this, city = low obesity (access to services/programs/gyms, rural = high obesity. Metabolic complications & health risks imposed by obesity: disability increases with increased bmi, relative risk of developing one of these disorders if you are obese.
