MECO1002 Lecture 1: Communication
Document Summary
Communication: the process by which information is transmitted and understood between two or more people. If any part of the communication process is distorted or broken, the sender and the receiver will not have a common understanding of the message. It is the psychological, social and structural barriers that distort and obscure the senders intended message. Verbal communication: includes any oral or written means of transmitting meaning through words. Face to face interaction provides the sender with immediate feedback from the receiver and the opportunity to adjust the emotional tone of the message accordingly. Written communication is easier to follow when written down than when communicated aurally: computer-mediated communication- can be quickly formed, edited and stored. For decision making, it increases the volume of communication and significantly alters the flow of that information within groups and people up the hierarchy.
