Some people because famous because they have done something concrete but celebrities are famous for being well-known. Two combined: every celebrity lies somewhere on a spectrum of combing achievement or talent and the surplus value of celebrity or the celebrity effect-the independent value of well-knownness. Eg: benjamin franklin expert at manipulating public perception of him. They serve as cognitive orientation, reference points- what it means to be female/male.
