Document Summary

Visceral and parietal peritoneum: the visceral layer of the peritoneum arises from the splanchnic layer of the lateral plate mesoderm, the parietal layer arises from somatic layer. Secondary retroperitoneal organs: organs whose mesenteries come into contact with the abdominal wall and (cid:494)fuse(cid:495) with it, most of duodenum and pancreas, ascending and descending colons. Retroperitoneal organs (extra: organs that lie on the posterior body wall and only have peritoneum on their anterior face only- kidneys. Neurovascular supply of the foregut: foregut derivates: Gallbladder: coeliac trunk (artery) supplies the foregut derivatives, various veins that drain into hepatic portal vein directly or indirectly, autonomic innervation is by the coeliac ganglion and plexus, coeliac lymph nodes are responsible for lymphatic drainage. Abnormalities in pancreas development: annular pancreas- when bilobed ventral pancreas don(cid:495)t fuse, and rotate in opposite directions around the duodenum- can cause duodenal stenosis. The part of midgut that remains in the umbilical cord is the small intestine.
