101183 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Motion Aftereffect, Motion Perception, Color Vision
Document Summary
What are the basic dimensions of human experience: 5 senses, movement - vestibular system giving information. Colour perception area of the cortex: damage to area v8 = real colour blindness. Lose subjective experience of colour: world is like a black and white movie, colour lost but not shape or motion based on colour. Implies that motion is not directly measured, not inferred. Shape from motion: perceive shape defined by motion, therefore motion cannot depend only on first seeing shape and then tracking it to infer motion, measured by kinematogram. Mt (v5: all cells respond to motion, many respond to "global" motion, independently of local directions, v1 and mt response to motion, only v1 responds to flickers. Structure from motion: recovering the 3rd dimension, depth from motion, motion parallax, optic flow, capturing attention, recovering the reflectance properties of surfaces. Face perception areas: prosopagnosia, damage to ffa areas, unable to recognise faces, object recognition unaffected.
