Learning to be caretakers: aboriginal perspectives on caring for country. Sustainability seeks to promote stewardship of the environment, encouraging everyone to assume the responsibility of being a caretaker of the environment. Indigenous australians have much to offer in the development of this sense of stewardship. Caring for country: reciprocity, as we care for country, country cares for us. Sustainability addresses the ongoing capacity of earth to maintain all life. Understanding systems: the biosphere is a dynamic system providing conditions that sustain life on earth, all life forms, including human life, are connected through ecosystems on which they depend for their well being and survival. Sustainable patterns of living rely on the interdependence of healthy social, economic and ecological systems. The facts of life (frijof capra: matter cycles continually through the web of life, most of the energy driving the ecological cycles flows from the sun, diversity assured resilience, one species" waste is another species" food.
