A deeper look into the person-environment-occupation (peo approach) lec 3. Giving the person an ability to make a choice. Person-centred = important active role and to work towards goals and build skills concepts. Person-first language (e. g. not "asthmatic" but "person with asthma") - eradicate negative connotations e. g. "suffered" Environment - can either limit or enable occupational performance. Life story - past, present, and future story. Being accountable and effective as a therapist. Goal through intervention is to maximise the fit. Assistive technology - help people achieve with greater ease. Goal = maximise the fit between the person, environment and occupation - increase occupational performance. It includes the personal, social and physical environment. The occupational therapy guidelines for client -centred practice ( caot, 1991) classify environmental factors as cultural, economic, legal, political, physical and/or social. The tasks that a person wishes to achieve are always significantly influenced by the context in which the task is performed.
