Produced by schwann cells (neuroglia) in pns. Myelin is fatty bc schwann cell wraps around cell membrane to produce myelin - cell membrane is lipid based. Pns = schwann cells (creates myelin - not always), satellite cells (protect and support soma in ganglia). Cns = astrocyte (supports blood vessels and creates blood brain barrier), ependymal cells, oligodendrocyte (makes myelin), microglial cells (immune function). Multipolar: many branches from cell body (dendrites) ie. motor neuron. Unipolar: one branch (sensory neuron) w soma off to the side. Bipolar: 2 extensions (dendrite one way and axon to the other) Cell body bundles = nuclei or 1 nucleus. Cell body bundles = ganglia or 1 ganglion. Somatic sensory division - info from skin, muscles, bones, joints. Visceral sensory division - info from organs (from viscera of thoracic and abdominal cavities) Visceral/autonomic motor division - commands for glands, cardiac, smooth muscle. Somatic motor division - commands for skeletal muscle.
