Secondary factors of assessment: disease, individuating characteristics. Antemortem trauma shows evidence of a physiological response. Perimortem trauma may provide valuable info on cirumstances surrounding death. 2 broad categories: visual / non- metric, linear / metric. Takes heights, lengths and breadths which are inputted into predetermined statistical equations. Is the correlation between body height and limb length: tibia and femur (lower limbs) are most strongly correlated to stature, footprints and handprints. Natural / accidental / suicidal / homicidal. Coroner legal det to manner of death. Pathologist legal opinion about cause of death. Anthropologist contribute an opinion about skeletal remains. Individual fits the biological profile of the skeletal remains. Results from information exclusive to only one individual. When positive id is impossible presumptive will be the alternative method. Aus uses the id booklet in mass disasters.
