Lecture #13: anatomy: nervous system: 10th april 2018: Explain the structural and functional divisions of the nervous system. Identify the gross anatomy of the brain and spinal cord. Identify the arteries comprising the cerebral arterial circle. Describe the structure and function of the cranial meninges. Understand the difference between grey and white matter. Peripheral nerves serve as communication lines that link all part of the body to the cns. Somites (muscles and bones) - somatic nervous system. Spinal cord (in vertebral foramen- in the vertebral column- behind the body of the lamina: cervical spinal cord is quite long and wide- triangle shape. Bone structures, meninges (lepto meninx- group of 3 different layers that cover the brain), cerebrospinal fluid made in the ventricles (choroid plexus)- sits between in the subarachnoid space, fat layer for insulation, veins- drain blood in vertebra. Every brain is different (each is common, but sulcus is different, the size of brain is different)- human variation.
