SSEH3301 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Dublin Institute For Advanced Studies, Alcoholic Drink, Goniometer
Lecture 5a: SSEH3301 - Health and Fitness Assessment
-starting point for exercise prescription!
-Know which level client is at!
What is health?!
= absence of disease/infirmity (weakness)!
= state of complete physical, mental and social well-being!
-generally in medical industry that see
health as the first definition (no disease)!
-There is a scale!
-Middle point = neutral: no obvious
signs of illness/wellness!
-important to get people far up the
scale for complete well being!
!
-not elite athlete!
-People going about day to day activities without
undue fatigue !
-ability to last and persevere under difficult
circumstances!
- Components of health cover main RF!!
!
-identify what RF are specific for each individual!
-Different RF profile!
-work out current level of fitness = can work out
exercise prescription!
- depending on fitness level -> safe levels to know!
-assess: reduced RF targetted?!
!
Valid = if it measures what it sets out to measure!
Reliable = when repeated multiple occasions, same results
expected if nothing were to change (if different test result,
person actually improve/deteriorate, and not because
variability inherent in test)!
Norms = has norms available for comparison (especially if
first time doing assessment, because number doesn’t mean
much to them, want to compare) - where they sit relative!
Economy = so many tests, depends on what resources
available (space, equipment) !
-covers main RF!
-If test these, have holistic H&FA!
-Lab covers most of these!
(FITNESS
SIDE OF
THINGS)!
