Document Summary

Builder, spent his time in the military, public intellectual. Never gets to meet socrates because he dies. Socrates doesn"t write a thing in his life, plato does it all. Socrates believes you cant create a city of politics over myth. Because your action depends on your beliefs, whether they be mundane or ecstatic or lousy actions depend on your information. Plato: "artists should be monitored because they pose a threat to the government as they create alternate worlds that are mythic and this can fool the public and the people. " If goodness is approved to be good because it is good then we are independent of god and goodness is in its act. Whereas, if what is approved by god is good, then spontaneous choices and decisions by god make all our decisions. This comes at the high cost that good is arbitrary. Gods are at best inert, at worst, non-existent.
