Document Summary

Each characteristic will activate the same set of nodes in a different way. The connectionist approach shows how you can link concepts together to recognize an object. When you see something novel, what happens is that some nodes will strengthen their connection. In neurons this is called long-term potentiation (if they communicate often their connection will increase over time. This is the same idea of what happens with nodes. It is based on neuronal activity but it is not neuronal activity. It is based on the same idea but one is measured in neurons and one is not. They all have flaws so you cannot see one as being true and the other false rather they are both true to an extent. The sensory-functional hypothesis states that information in the brain is separated into two categories. To know about different animals would require certain regions of the brain and to know about objects would require other regions of the brain.
