modernity- related to enlightenment which is about the industrial
revolution
enlightenment the idea industrial revolution is the result of enlightenment
enlightenment- way of thinking about the world..there was an idea of
progress [remember this word]
what is modernity again?
Rationality through using our rational mind … our skills
mathematics, skills.. that later helped factories

knowledge leads to certitude
history has a direction knowing that things will change for the
better… used to not have running water…now we have
technologically advanced things our life is more comfortable as
compared to the pas
science allows us to control the world - people started building the
reailways
idea of progress that there would be something better…we did have
progess….but shit happens… we did not always use progress for the
right purposes [i.e. atomic bomb]
these machines created global warming result of machines we
created.. Antarctica is melting
