Uniform probability distribution
o For continuous variables you consider probability in terms of the likelihood that a
random variable assumes a value within a specified interval
o In the flight time example of the flight being between 120-140 minutes if the question
that is posed is what is the probability that the flight will be between 120-130 minutes
the answer will be 50% based on the uniform distribution chart
Area as a measure of probability
o The area under the graph corresponds to the probability of certain observations
o For instance the probability of the flight being between 120 and 130 minutes long is
130-120=10=10*(1/20)=10/20=0.5
o Formulas for expected value and variance are as follows
o A is the smallest value and b is the larger value
Normal probability distribution
o Most important probability distribution for describing a continuous variable
o Normal curve
