Document Summary

Learning: change in behaviour/knowledge as a result of experience. Animal associates a speci c voluntary behaviour with the outcome of that behaviour. Animal does not repeat that behaviour, shift in response. Stimulus should always be presented following the behaviour. Stimulus should be presented immediately after the behaviour. If too much time passes, animal won"t understand why it"s receiving outcome: vertebrates. Behaviour performed = pressing the lever reward = food pellet (more likely to push lever again) punishment = electric shock (less likely to push lever again: invertebrates aerial respiration. Behaviour = opening pneumostone (body part to gain oxygen) Number of openings decreases after each poke/training session. Have learned the association between their behaviour and response. Remember this change for at least 24 hours (long-term memory) Same number of pokes , however applied to closed pneumostone. Animals did not show any change in behaviour. Punishment alone is not suf cient to alter behaviour.
