The universe began with the big bang about 13. 7 billion years ago. 4 bya the earth cooled enough for outer layers to solidify and oceans to form n. 4 bya to 3. 5 bya first life on earth. We use strands of evidence to piece together history. Bio: life or relating to living organisms. Micro: small; too small to be seen with the naked eye (changes in genetics in species) Symbiosis: a close association between two organisms (endosymbiotic: looking at evolutionary theories about how eukaryotic cells came to be) Know the geological time scale. (do not have to know exact dates just roughly know them and know order) Describe the major environmental changes that have occurred on earth. (land masses changes etc. ) Describe how fossils are formed and how we know how old they are. Explain the various biases that affect our interpretation of the fossil record. (depends a lot on the paleontologist and what their interest is)
