In pipefish and seahorses, males do most of the post-zygotic care for offspring. In shorebirds, females more often court males and males raise young. Has been shown to be related to the sex ration --> higher proportion of females, role reversal more likely. Often different sex ration in shorebirds, females may be more fit in both environments but the makes may be fit in only one environment.
