Document Summary

The parents of eating disorder kids did lack some communication skills however such as the ability to request clarification of vague statements. Found that the students attitudes and beh were tied more closely to perceived parental characteristics (criticism from parents) than to actual parental characteristics. Self reports of childhood sexual abuse are higher than normal among patients with eating disorders especially those with bn. 25% of women with eating disorders reported the experience of previous sexual abuse; it also correlated a history of sexual abuse with greater psychological disturbances. Confirmed that bulimic women, relative to normal eaters, had higher levels of childhood abuse and that the presence and severity of abuse predicted more extreme psychopathology. However high rates of childhood sexual abuse are found among ppl in many diagnostic categories, so if it okays some role it is not highly specific to eating disorders.
